Extreme Dynamics Processing
In this video, we'll explore creating a special type of compressor that creates an extremely squashed dynamic range - anything above a certain threshold is amplified all the way up to unity gain, and anything beneath another threshold is muted entirely. This can create a very intriguing effect where decaying transients are amplified to be as loud as the rest of the signal, giving a new twist on sounds, particularly drums. I'll demonstrate a finished ensemble, and then walk through the process of creating it from scratch.
